🌊 Perlin Noise Generator

Infinite landscapes hiding in math.

What is Perlin Noise?

Invented by Ken Perlin in 1983 for the movie Tron, Perlin noise generates smooth, natural-looking randomness. It's used everywhere: terrain generation, clouds, fire effects, procedural textures, and generative art.

Parameters

  • Scale — Zoom level. Higher = more zoomed in.
  • Octaves — Layers of detail. More octaves = richer texture.
  • Persistence — How much each octave contributes. Lower = smoother.
  • Lacunarity — Frequency multiplier per octave. Higher = more fine detail.
  • Speed — How fast the noise evolves over time.
  • Seed — The random starting point. Same seed = same pattern.

💡 Fun fact: Ken Perlin won an Academy Award for Technical Achievement for this algorithm!
